CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

...investing in the next generation of nonviolent educators, activists and organizers, building sustainable organizations 

The 1817 Soquel Avenue Capital Campaign Committee has set as its fund-raising goal a total of $5million over the next three years. Support will take many forms, including: individual gifts and loans; foundation grants; corporate donations; federal and state tax credits and incentives; and, individual low- and no-interest loans.

 

Harry Belafonte, Honorary Chair of Capital Campaign Committee. Harry Belafonte, musician, actor and social activist, chairs the Capital Campaign Committee of friends and supporters of Barrios Unidos and the Resource Center for Nonviolence.

Other Honorary Capital Campaign Committee members include:

Maryanne Mott. Maryanne Mott is President of the CS Fund/Warsh-Mott Legacy and Trustee of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Maryanne has been a supporter of  the Resource Center for Nonviolence since its founding.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hal Conklin. Hal Conklin (above left, reviewing 1817 Soque Avenue plans with Nane Alejandrez, founder of Barrios Unidos), served as the Mayor and City Council Member for the City of Santa Barbara, President of the California League of Cities and Vice President of the National League of Cities. He currently is Executive Director of Local Public Affairs for Southern California Edison, the electrical utility for 11 million people in Southern California, and President of the California Center for Civic Renewal.


Joan Baez. Folk singer, song writer, human rights advocate, and outspoken advocate for nonviolence, Joan Baez has put herself on the line countless times. Joan has lent her time, energy and voice to movements for civil rights and the United Farm Workers, against successive wars since Vietnam and up to Iraq, against the death penalty and land mines, and for gay rights. Joan co-founded the Institute For The Study of Nonviolence in 1966 and helped found the Resource Center for Nonviolence in 1976.

OT Quintero & Scott Kennedy, Capital Campaign Co-Directors. 

OT Quintero, Assistant Director of Barrios Unidos, and Scott Kennedy, co-founder of the Resource Center for Nonviolence, both have extensive experience in helping the two organizations acquire and sustain their permanent facilities and ongoing programs. They are sharing responsibility for directing the fundraising efforts to make construction of 1817 Soquel Avenue possible.


Julene Perez-Gonzales, Capital Campaign Adviser. Julene Perez-Gonzales previously served as program officer for the Packard Foundation and lead consultant for a capital campaign of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Julene serves as consultant to the 1817 Soquel Avenue Capital Campaign drive.

Roxanne Rivas, Capital Campaign Coordinator

Roxanne Rivas is a graduate in Anthropology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and an MBA candidate in sustainable economic development. Roxanne manages the day-to-day responsibilities of the Capital Campaign.
