Started and grown in Santa Cruz, California, BARRIOS UNIDOS & the RESOURCE CENTER FOR NONVIOLENCE have more than 60 years of combined service at the local, regional, national and international levels. BU & RCNV have 45 years of managing commercial and residential properties as the base for ongoing work for peace & human rights, violence prevention, gang intervention, youth empowerment, leadership development, nonviolence education and training, advocacy and community service. BU & RCNV's new partnership will create a community center at 1817 Soquel Avenue in East Santa Cruz, that will include first time home-buyer residential units, employee housing above offices for both groups, retail space, community meeting facilities, and program space for both nonprofits.
